Neighborhood Garage Sale – Space, Supplies, and Boxes

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

One of the first steps in preparing for your garage sale will be to find a space to store your sale inventory and gather organizing supplies.

Your inventory is actually in your house right now. You just need to relocate items into one single location (or maybe a few locations) to make it easier to organize. This is where these items will live until the day of the event, so make sure to choose space(s) that is large enough to accommodate the volume without being in your way. Maybe look for space in a closet because it is out the way and offers hanging space for those clothes you are going to sell, or better yet, in your garage.

Since you don’t live in the garage, it will bother you less and you will actually be clearing clutter “out” of your house, which will feel GREAT![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3867″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3868″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]In the end, any space is a good space, but remember the items you store there will be inventory for your sale, and not temporary storage until you feel like using the items again. Once it’s done, it’s done. All the organizing sites in the world will tell you to make a clean break and once the decision is made to sell the item in the sale, you should consider it “sold.”

As you are pulling these items together, just place them in your yard sale storage area and leave them there![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Now that you have space in a closet or your garage for the inventory, you should start gathering supplies to be ready to price your items. When you take an item to your inventory storage, you should have whatever you need right there in the storage area so that you can price that item correctly.

You will need:

  1. Permanent markers
  2. Round or rectangular blank stickers
  3. Safety pins
  4. Index cards (blank if possible)
  5. Scissors
  6. Start collecting boxes…just as if you were moving

For those items that stickers will not stick to, use a safety pin and the card stock. Cut the card stock into quarters and use one of the 1/4 pieces to write the price on; then simply use a pin to attach the price to the item. Boom…Done!!

Price Everything!!! People sometimes feel awkward asking for what something costs. Also, you could be overwhelmed with too many people, and you may not be available to give a price on the fly. An item that is priced has a lot more possibilities of being sold.

When pricing here are some thoughts:

  • Price it to sell it, not to keep it. If you price something too high, you are going to keep it. So, remember this is a yard sale and people are looking for bargains.
  • If you just can’t price that old glass vase for a yard sale price, you can always put it up on
